The UK’s first insurance for household humanoid robots has been launched by Tokio Marine HCC International and Adrian Flux. It covers damage to and theft of the robot, damage to household contents, third-party liability and emergency recovery in the event of a malfunction.
Tokio Marine HCC International and UK insurance broker Adrian Flux announced that they will jointly launch the UK’s first home insurance for household humanoid robots. The insurance covers damage to and theft of the robot itself, damage to household property, third-party liability and emergency recovery in the event of a malfunction.
The insurance will be offered as part of Adrian Flux’s home insurance, with coverage extending to damage to the robot itself and household contents. At launch, against the backdrop of robots costing several thousand pounds, it was suggested that insurance could help foster a new market.
The introduction of insurance for household humanoid robots could create a new household risk category distinct from existing insurance for industrial and commercial robots. As the use of robots in the home expands, the coverage is expected to combine protection against equipment damage, property damage and liability to residents.
