Japanese companies and research institutions held a project results briefing and harvest festival in Vietnam's Dien Bien Province for a demonstration project in data-driven farming. The results of cultivation in smart greenhouses and remote technical guidance were reported.
The project aims to increase the profitability of primary industries in Dien Bien Province by combining agricultural solutions that bring small- and medium-scale, high-value-added production from Japan to the local market with remote technical guidance. A smart greenhouse was installed at a local agricultural extension facility using a subsidy for fiscal year 2024.
As part of the demonstration, smart greenhouses were built at the Dien Bien Province Agricultural Extension Center and on fields operated by local producers. Environmental data was linked through Net Chart's P3EG to NTTアグリテクノロジー's remote farm management support system, while cultivation guidance was provided jointly by Japanese companies and the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization.
Officials from the Dien Bien Province People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Environment, as well as related companies and organizations from Japan and Vietnam, attended the project's results briefing and harvest festival. They inspected the harvested fruit tomatoes and reviewed the results. The tomatoes were also displayed and offered for tasting at sales outlets including airport lounges.
Going forward, the project will consider expanding the agricultural business through a franchise model and ensuring stable operations by combining solar power generation and battery storage equipment with cloud-based IoT to address challenges related to the stability of the local electricity supply.
