This article summarizes the key latest developments for individual investors, including the launch of the 8th application round for the SME Labor-Saving Investment Subsidy, the expansion of the catalog-order type and revisions to the wage-increase requirements for the general type.
The 8th application round for the SME Labor-Saving Investment Subsidy opened on 18 August 2026. Applications for the general type will be accepted from 18 September 2026, with a deadline of 16 October. Although there are no changes to the subsidy caps or rates, the method for calculating the base fiscal year and the review criteria have been revised, and current wage increases have newly been added to the review criteria.
There are 2 categories, the catalog-order type and the general type, which differ in eligible equipment, application timing and wage-increase requirements. The catalog-order type is an acceptance-based program for installing pre-registered products, while the general type covers the installation of made-to-order equipment and systems. The latest program revision also raises the subsidy caps according to the number of employees.
The catalog-order type was improved under the program revision of 19 March 2026. The subsidy cap for businesses with 20 or fewer employees was raised, revenue-based repayment was abolished and the application period was extended. Requirements were also established to relax the minimum-wage increase standard when the exceptional provision for substantial wage increases applies.
The main changes in the 8th application round include a change to the base fiscal year, the addition of current wage increases to the review criteria, a requirement that work begin after the grant award date, a shorter implementation period after selection, and the addition of extra points for meeting the minimum-wage increase requirement. Applicants are advised to check the latest information in the official guidelines.
The FY2027 budget request includes a proposed subsidy for labor-saving, digitalization and AI investment, while applications for the current catalog-order type are scheduled to be accepted until around the end of March 2027. A framework is being considered to support wage increases and productivity improvements at SMEs in an integrated manner.
