Apple announced the iPad mini as its biggest-ever update. In addition to a thin, lightweight new design, it features an OLED display and the A20 Pro, significantly improving performance, along with next-generation N1/C2 connectivity and iPadOS 27.
The new iPad mini features a design that reduces thickness while lowering weight, along with IP67-rated water and dust resistance and an 8.5-inch OLED display. Contrast and brightness are improved over the previous model, and a Nano-texture display option is also available.
The A20 Pro chip improves AI processing and graphics performance. Its 7-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator and dual 16-core Neural Engines support on-device AI tasks. The cameras include a 12MP Center Stage front camera and a 12MP wide-angle rear camera, supporting 4K 60fps recording and Smart HDR 4.
The next-generation N1 and C2 wireless chips enable Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular model is up to 50% faster with the C2 modem. iPadOS 27 includes enhanced features using Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, as well as new multitasking and privacy features.
For accessories, support has been enhanced for the new Smart Folio, Apple Pencil (USB-C) and Apple Pencil Pro. As part of its environmental initiatives, Apple has outlined the use of recycled materials and a policy aimed at carbon neutrality.
Pre-orders begin on 29 October and sales begin on 6 November. Apple says it has comprehensively enhanced the device’s thinness, light weight, display, performance and integration features, while also highlighting the expanded capabilities of the new operating system and AI features.
