It has newly come to light that local subsidiaries of Toyota Motor Corporation and several other Japanese companies have been sued by consumers seeking refunds in connection with the Trump administration's reciprocal tariff refunds.
Following the US Supreme Court's ruling that the reciprocal tariffs were illegal, the government is processing refunds of approximately $166 billion in tariffs it collected. Moves to seek refunds are emerging one after another in the United States, and local subsidiaries of several Japanese companies have become involved in lawsuits.
According to the complaints, the companies involved include Toyota Motor Corporation, Nintendo, Fast Retailing, which operates Uniqlo, and Sony Group's local subsidiaries. Consumers claim that the companies passed the tariff burden on to them through higher prices and are seeking the return of part of the refunds.
