Michelin announced the Michelin Key Hotel Selection 2026 on 18 September 2026. There were 470 new listings, and 10 of the 79 destinations are in countries covered by the Michelin Key for the first time. The number of Michelin Key hotels worldwide has reached 2,832, comprising 155 hotels with 3 Michelin Keys, 657 with 2 Michelin Keys and 2,020 with 1 Michelin Key.
The latest announcement was particularly notable for the number of new listings in Europe and Asia. It was also reported that 18 hotels newly received 3 Michelin Keys, while 84 hotels raised their rating from 1 to 2 or from 2 to 3. Michelin views the expansion of its hotel selection as evidence of the evolution of hospitality.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, praised independent and boutique hotels as driving forces behind innovation and said they are enhancing the value of the stay experience. The development of new destinations and global investment trends are also reported to be supporting change across the industry.
Four special awards and four winning hotels were announced. The winners were recognised in the Architecture & Design, Wellness, Opening of the Year and Local Gateway categories: Desert Rock Resort, Schloss Elmau Luxury Spa Retreat & Cultural Hideaway, Airelles Palladio, Venice, and Londolozi Game Reserve.
