Google announced 8 new Google Play features simultaneously on 16 October 2026. Many have no scheduled launch date in Japan, while some are English-only or focused on the US.
The announcements included 8 new features, including “Run personal apps on Google Play,” which lets users run AI-built personal apps, “Ask Play,” which compares suitable apps based on questions alone, and “Game Finder,” which recommends suitable games based on users’ play patterns. These were released together as new features for Android. Launch timing in Japan remains undecided for many of them, and some are expected to launch first in the US and other regions.
The features available and unavailable in Japan were clarified, along with whether Japanese is supported and any regional restrictions. Personal apps will roll out progressively to users aged 18 and over in some regions, including the US, while availability in Japan is undecided. Ask Play will be available in English only, with Japanese support undecided. Game Finder will launch in English in the US, with other regions to follow. The announcement also said that Play in Gemini, Sprint, community posts, Google Play Games Assistant, and Family Link age sharing are scheduled to expand progressively.
The AI-powered personal app feature will let users run apps created through Google AI Studio privately, with the ability to share them with friends and family planned for a future release. Availability in Japan is undecided, but the feature is expected to launch progressively, starting in some regions including the US. The announcement also introduced the integration between Ask Play and Gemini, along with Game Finder’s “Gamer DNA” recommendations based on individual suitability.
For gaming, Sprint will launch progressively across regions as 48-hour small-scale contests. Other features include Google Play Games Assistant, which provides replay saving as 30-second videos, and automatic translation for community posts. The announcement also described platform expansions, including expanded sports topic pages and display adaptations for in-vehicle and XR devices.
