環境管理センター has outlined a policy of strengthening cultivation trials using agricultural materials such as pesticides and fertilizers. The new facility in Ibaraki Prefecture is expected to serve as a demonstration site for indoor cultivation. The aim is to support the promotion of agriculture that contributes to higher food self-sufficiency, lower environmental impact and climate change mitigation.
The company opened the Chikusei Trial Farm in April 2015 on a site of approximately 1 hectare. It currently conducts trials of a wide range of crops, including rice, beans, vegetables and fruit trees, in 7 greenhouses and open fields. The new facility is expected to be located on land near this site.
