Estimated morning-session trading volume was approximately 1.04926 billion shares, and trading value was approximately ¥3.9088 trillion. Although many stocks rose, many also fell, leaving the market weak.
Among individual stocks, Kioxia Holdings, Advantest and Lasertec fell sharply, while Ibiden plunged to near its limit down. Selling spread mainly across semiconductor- and AI-related stocks, and domestic-demand stocks including Fujitsu, Furukawa Electric and Hitachi also came under pressure.
Against a backdrop of declines in U.S. technology stocks, selling pressure on AI- and semiconductor-related stocks intensified in Japan. The results of the Bank of Japan's Monetary Policy Meeting were scheduled to be announced, and the market broadly adopted a wait-and-see stance ahead of the announcement.
Meanwhile, Fast Retailing, Recruit Holdings and Keyence at times held their ground relatively well, producing divergent performance among stocks across the market. Based on the morning session, developments in the afternoon were expected to be the focus.
