Yamaguchi Prefecture has signed an agreement with a Tokyo-based pharmaceutical R&D company to strengthen measures against chronic kidney disease. Under the agreement, the parties will work together to raise awareness of CKD, promote early medical consultations and train public health nurses.
On 27 August, Yamaguchi Prefecture signed a partnership agreement with the Tokyo-based pharmaceutical research and development company 日本ベーリンガーインゲルハイム to strengthen measures against chronic kidney disease, or CKD. The agreement calls for collaboration to raise awareness of CKD, promote early medical consultations and train public health nurses to help prevent the disease from becoming more severe.
In the prefecture, the mortality rates from renal failure in 2020 were 32.4 per 100,000 men and 15.5 per 100,000 women, both above the national averages. In addition, of those who began dialysis treatment in the prefecture in 2023, 188 had diabetic nephropathy as the cause, accounting for 41.2% of the total.
Yamaguchi is the 11th prefecture with which 日本ベーリンガーインゲルハイム has signed an agreement, and the first such case in the Chugoku region.
