Tokyo stocks extended their losses against the backdrop of the trend in U.S. markets and rising long-term interest rates. Selling in AI and semiconductor-related stocks led the decline, and the market opened sharply lower for a second consecutive session.
Around 9:50 a.m., the Nikkei average widened its losses, falling more than ¥1,800 amid selling in AI and semiconductor stocks.
The Nikkei opened at 65,195.43, down ¥1,019.91 from the previous day. Selling in AI and semiconductor-related stocks led the decline, following the trend in U.S. markets.
Selling also prevailed across the Prime Market as long-term interest rates remained elevated, with about 90% of stocks declining.
