Former yokozuna Asashoryu, also known as Dolgorsuren Dagvadorj (ドルゴルスレン・ダグワドルジ), questioned the nature of media coverage and the involvement of local politicians in an X post about the grassland fire that occurred on 8 October in the Numrug Nature Reserve in eastern Mongolia. Differences in related reports have been noted regarding how the fire started. The reserve is located in an area bordering China. It has also been disclosed that Japanese executives of Mobicom visited the site.
According to local authorities, 528,765 hectares, equivalent to approximately 80% of the reserve, were burned, an area approximately 2.4 times the size of Tokyo. The Mongolian government said it planned to identify those responsible and seek damages.
