Focusing on a 2008 interview, Jay Chou looks back on the production of “Capricorn” and his activities at the time. He discusses why he appeared in the film “Kung Fu Dunk!”, what filming was like, and his plans for future music and films.
In a 2008 interview, Jay Chou discussed the background to his activities while producing “Capricorn.” He had liked basketball since childhood and described appearing in the film “Kung Fu Dunk!” as “a major challenge,” looking back on the opportunity to attempt slam dunks and fantastical, otherworldly visual effects.
The interview also included an explanation of Part 2. The director’s policy was not to make it unless it could surpass the first film, and Jay suggested that Part 2 would be made by the same team but could have a different story. As with “Initial D,” he took a cautious view of whether the project would come to fruition.
He also discussed injuries sustained during filming, saying that many of the injuries caused by the action were in places that were difficult to see. Regarding the scheduling of his directing and acting work, he said he had been so exhausted that he took a break from directing, and was pleased to be able to focus solely on acting again.
He also spoke about his music production at the time, explaining that he wrote “Thousand Mountains and Rivers” for an open call for songs for the Beijing Olympics. He said candidly that, although work on the album was under way, the Japanese edition might not be ready for release in August, and that he envisioned a different atmosphere for each song in his plans for future albums.
