Apple has announced AirPods 5 with open-ear active noise cancellation, offering a model with improved external-noise reduction compared with AirPods 4, alongside a model with a wireless charging case. Preorders open today, with sales beginning on 18 September.
AirPods 5 features an open-ear design and claims industry-leading active noise cancellation, along with a multi-port acoustic architecture and next-generation adaptive equalization. It removes up to 50% more noise than AirPods 4, while also making Transparency mode sound more natural.
The sound profile incorporates the design philosophy of AirPods Pro 3 to deliver richer, more detailed audio. Personalized Spatial Audio has been optimized to create a more immersive listening experience, while the combination of Transparency mode and ANC is dynamically adjusted to suit the situation.
As an intelligent feature, Siri AI can be used hands-free, while Apple Intelligence capabilities, including Live Translation, have been enhanced. When paired with an iPhone, users can operate messages and email and perform actions in apps by voice.
The standard model is priced at ¥23,800 (including tax), while the model with a wireless charging case costs ¥27,800 (including tax). Preorders open today, with sales beginning on 18 September. The case features a pressure-sensitive sensor that supports volume swiping. Battery life is up to 5 hours with ANC enabled, or up to 22 hours of playback with the case.
