In Tokyo stock market trading on the 12th after the holiday, the Nikkei Stock Average (225 issues) extended its gains, closing ¥553.84 higher than the previous day at ¥67,524.06. The Nikkei rose for a second consecutive trading day, while TOPIX ended trading up 0.94% at 4,139.00, reaching a new high for the first time in about a month.
Tokyo trading followed the previous day's gains in some semiconductor-related stocks on the U.S. market, with AI and semiconductor-related stocks bought in Japan. Funds also flowed into stocks whose earnings were well received, and more than 60% of all stocks on the TSE Prime Market rose, resulting in broad-based gains.
Meanwhile, higher crude oil futures prices raised concerns about increased corporate cost burdens, and declines were notable in some domestic-demand stocks, including retailers. Rising geopolitical risks surrounding the Middle East also weighed on investor sentiment. Trading value was strong, and trading volume on the TSE Prime Market reached approximately 2.5 billion shares.
