Tokyo equities continued to trade in a directionless range at the opening of the afternoon session. While concerns about declines in AI-related stocks weighed on the market, dip-buying was also seen, and the Nikkei 225 remained around the morning closing level.
The Nikkei 225 opened the afternoon session sharply lower from the previous business day at ¥62,202.03. While declines in AI and semiconductor stocks weighed on the market, dip-buying was also seen, leaving the market directionless overall.

Across the market, trading volume was 942.81 million shares and trading value was ¥3.2454 trillion. Among the 33 sectors, nonferrous metals, electric appliances and machinery declined, while mining, oil and coal products, and wholesale trade rose.
At the opening, the Nikkei 225 began at ¥62,449.96, down ¥243.20 from the previous business day, continuing the sharp decline triggered by the rise in crude oil prices amid concerns over the situation in the Middle East.
