NILIM has signed a joint research agreement with Synspective and QPS Institute to develop technology for detecting fire damage using small SAR satellites.
NILIM, the National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management, has begun joint research with Synspective and QPS Institute to develop fire-damage detection technology using expertise related to the small SAR satellites owned by the two companies.
The joint research combines NILIM's accumulated expertise in fire science with SAR satellite data from the two companies.
As the importance of rapidly assessing the extent of damage over wide areas during disasters increases, the project aims to extract affected areas and accelerate on-site surveys by using the characteristics of data obtained from different satellite systems.
The research aims to establish technology that will contribute to more advanced initial response and recovery support during large-scale fires, while promoting research and development of disaster-response technology using satellite data.
