Nikkei 225 futures rebounded from the previous day after the close, ending at ¥65,520. With the recovery in the US market limited and semiconductor stocks slow to recover, funds showed a notable shift toward TOPIX-type stocks.
According to Kabutan's market factors report, the December Nikkei 225 futures contract ended ¥720 higher than the previous day at ¥65,520. It opened at ¥65,460, fell to ¥65,120, then rose to ¥65,830 in the middle of the morning session and ¥65,890 in the afternoon session. Profit-taking emerged around ¥65,400 thereafter, and the contract moved around ¥65,400 again toward the end of the session.
Although major US market indexes rebounded, the recovery in AI and semiconductor-related stocks was sluggish, limiting gains in issues such as Advantest, Tokyo Electron, SoftBank Group and Kioxia Holdings.
The number of TSE Prime stocks that rose approached 1,300, with more than 80% of the market advancing. The shift toward TOPIX-type stocks became pronounced, and TOPIX futures broke above the 75-day moving average, approaching 4,084 points. Meanwhile, Nikkei 225 futures continued to trade below both the 75-day and 25-day moving averages, leaving investors cautious about attempts to capture a rebound.
Trading volumes among major trading institutions in Nikkei 225 futures were active, according to trading-position data, while several securities firms showed high levels of open interest in TOPIX futures. The NT ratio declined to 16.05x, and TOPIX-type stocks are expected to remain in the lead.
