A hands-on construction DX class was held for second-year students at Nakoso Technical High School in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture. Using the SPIDER+ education version, the students experienced construction management and construction work in a class modelled on an actual worksite. The class was part of an initiative in which local companies and the school collaborate to develop the next generation of construction workers.
A hands-on construction DX class for second-year students was held on 30 September at Fukushima Prefectural Nakoso Technical High School in Iwaki. The class was conducted by スパイダープラス and the local company 三浦電気工事 as part of the Future Talent Project, and was positioned as a regional collaboration initiative aimed at addressing the shortage of workers in the construction industry.
Three training buildings of approximately 25 square metres each were installed on the school grounds. 三浦電気工事 was responsible for designing the class around the materials used at actual worksites and the construction process. The programme allowed students to experience in a single day a construction process that would normally take 6 months to 1 year, with the 18 participating students divided into 3 groups to carry out the work.
The students divided their roles between the construction side and the construction management side, undertaking all 15 stages of the work, from the initial KY activities through delivery of materials, installation of wiring and downlights, and insulation resistance testing. They gained an opportunity to learn in an environment close to an actual worksite and experienced practical knowledge and skills firsthand.
The students said that they had experienced difficulties unlike those of classroom learning, but had also found the experience rewarding despite their fatigue, thanks to the support of staff who created the atmosphere of an actual worksite. A teacher at the school said the experience was valuable as an opportunity for students to use tools employed at actual worksites.
