Mercari has entered into a capital and business alliance agreement with QUICK NETWORK, aiming to expand the options available for selling used cars by combining AI-powered touchpoints with Selca's appraisal and auction platform. The service is scheduled to begin rolling out from spring 2027 onward.
Mercari announced that it had entered into a capital and business alliance agreement with QUICK NETWORK. The companies cited the expanding used-car market and the complexity of the car-selling process as the background to the alliance, with both parties seeking to improve the car-selling experience by leveraging their respective strengths.
Under the initiative, Mercari plans to roll out touchpoints from spring 2027 onward that use AI-powered personalization to connect customers interested in selling their cars with appraisal applications for Selca, a competitive-bid appraisal and auction service. QUICK NETWORK will handle in-person vehicle appraisals, auction operations and support for the sale process after an appraisal application is submitted. Selca provides a platform through which a vehicle can be listed in an online auction, following a single in-person appraisal, where more than 9,000 registered buyers nationwide can participate.
Going forward, the companies plan to continue improving the used-car selling experience and strengthening their operating platform, while gradually expanding the scope and substance of the initiative based on usage and feedback. Over the medium to long term, they aim to create an environment in which people can consider selling or replacing their cars more easily, while working to further improve the experience and expand the potential of used-car distribution.
The background data cited includes statistics indicating that used registered and reported vehicles in Japan totaled approximately 6.5 million units in fiscal 2025, exceeding the number of new vehicles sold. The companies also cited survey results showing that approximately 84.7% of users considering selling a car had not yet decided which service to use next.
