Sony has announced the new Xperia 10 VIII smartphone, its mainstream model. It will be available in 3 colors, with the launch scheduled from mid-September. Sony has outlined improvements to the display, audio and additional features over the previous model.
The new smartphone features the “Point & Pay Menu.” Payment apps can be launched by pressing the power button twice, making everyday payments more convenient. The power button on the side includes a fingerprint authentication sensor, and the phone also supports Osaifu-Keitai, Japan’s mobile wallet service.
The Xperia 10 VIII comes with 8GB of physical RAM plus up to 6GB of virtual RAM, which is said to improve stability when watching videos, browsing the web and playing games. Activating virtual RAM requires available storage space, and does not mean that 14GB of RAM can be used at all times.
The display’s peak brightness is approximately 50% higher than that of the previous model, improving visibility in sunlight, and it supports a 120Hz refresh rate. In terms of audio, overall sound pressure is approximately 15% higher than before, while the low-frequency range is improved by more than 30%, and the speaker configuration has also been redesigned.
Other listed specifications include support for microSDXC cards of up to 2TB, 4 years of OS updates, up to 6 years of security updates, and IP65/68 water and dust resistance. The “Style Cover with Stand” is also available as an accessory.
