Canadian outdoor brand Arc’teryx has announced a new material and a new circularity platform, System 0, based on a circular approach. With the Spere SV Jacket at its center, the platform emphasizes a recycled-nylon design and ease of repair.
Arc’teryx formally announced the launch of a new circularity platform, System 0, in summer 2026. The company’s hard-shell jacket, the “Spere SV,” was incorporated as the foundation for the new material, with an emphasis on a design focused on circularity while maintaining its existing performance.
The company has made sustainability a core part of the brand for many years, launching the ReBIRD program in 2021 to promote product care and repair. It has continued to advance the view that extending product life helps reduce environmental impact.
The central idea behind the new design philosophy is to build designs starting with data on product disposal and collection, with particular emphasis on ease of repair. The development process incorporates designs based on real-world use environments rather than primarily on athletes’ perspectives, which also informed the decision to select the Spere SV as the first product.
System 0 includes the use of recycled nylon developed in collaboration with Italy’s Aquafil, by recycling used materials such as fishing nets. The initiative is intended to balance the high performance of existing products with environmental considerations.
