The first ASEAN On-Site Study Program 2026 was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. A total of 14 participants from 8 companies, including executives of Japanese companies and representatives of financial institutions, attended lectures, visited companies involved in completed M&A transactions, toured a Japanese-affiliated industrial park and took part in networking sessions.
Indonesia, ASEAN’s largest economy, continues to see market growth driven by the expansion of its middle class. At the same time, the country presents challenges specific to the local market, including differences in labor and legal systems and post-acquisition management integration. The program was held to provide an opportunity to learn about these issues firsthand.
The lectures covered the expansion of the middle class, real wage trends in 2026, support provided locally by Japanese financial institutions, practical aspects of recruitment and labor management, and legal considerations. At a roundtable discussion, participants shared firsthand experiences of negotiating acquisition prices, managing funds and working with local personnel.
During visits to companies involved in completed M&A transactions, participants learned about post-acquisition management improvements and practical examples of PMI. They also gained an understanding of business operations in Indonesia through a visit to PIK Avenue and tours of Japanese-affiliated industrial parks, including MM2100. The next program is scheduled to be held in November and will visit Malaysia and Vietnam.
