The Nikkei 225 rebounded for the first time in 7 trading days in the morning session, with broad-based gains led by semiconductor-related stocks. TOPIX and the TSE Prime Market Index also rose, while trading value remained in the ¥3.75 trillion range.
In the morning session on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Nikkei 225 rebounded for the first time in 7 trading days, ending at ¥65,550.68, up ¥1,124.73 from the previous day. Buying was broad-based, led by semiconductor-related stocks, resulting in widespread gains.
While the S&P 500 and Nasdaq posted only modest gains in the U.S. stock market, buying led Japanese stocks from the opening. Strength in AI- and semiconductor-related stocks provided reassurance to the market.
TOPIX rose 1.83% to 4,072.71 points, while the TSE Prime Market Index also rose 1.83% to 2,098.94 points. Trading value on the Prime Market was ¥3.751253 trillion. Of the 33 sectors on the TSE Prime Market, 32 rose, excluding electric power and gas.
Among individual stocks, Kioxia Holdings and SoftBank Group were firm, while Recruit Holdings hit an all-time high. Panasonic Holdings, meanwhile, was reportedly lackluster. Maki Sawada (澤田 麻希) of Nomura Securities noted that the Nikkei 225's rebound may amount to no more than a technical rebound and said concerns about AI-related stocks would continue to warrant caution.
