The Nikkei Stock Average Volatility Index (Nikkei VI) moved up and down during trading before declining toward the close. The market grew increasingly cautious ahead of higher crude oil prices and the release of US employment data.
On the 2nd, the Nikkei VI fell 0.34 from the previous day, or 1.48%, to 22.58. The high was 27.74 and the low was 22.58. Selling led trading in Nikkei 225 futures today.
After the Nikkei 225 rose ¥3,440 over the previous 3 consecutive sessions, selling was more likely today. Firm crude oil futures prices in overseas markets also weighed on stocks.
The September US employment data due to be released tonight was another risk factor. Against this backdrop, the Nikkei 225 remained weak after trading began, increasing concern in the market about rising volatility.
At the close, the Nikkei VI turned lower and traded well above the levels seen during trading hours.
