In the Tokyo stock market on the 13th, the Nikkei Stock Average fell for a fourth straight session, closing at ¥67,777.52. It was down ¥1,253.40 from the previous day and at one point fell more than ¥1,900 during the day. Declines in semiconductor stocks in the U.S. market and heightened tensions in the Middle East weighed on the market. AI- and semiconductor-related stocks were broadly sold, while some bank and trading company stocks were bought across the Japanese market, along with oil stocks on expectations of higher crude oil prices.
TOPIX extended its gains, closing at 4110.67 points, up 0.14%. The JPX Prime 50 Index, meanwhile, closed slightly lower at 1729.12. Trading value on the TSE Prime market was an estimated ¥7.964 trillion, with trading volume of 2.35628 billion shares. Declining stocks numbered 380, advancing stocks 1,140 and unchanged stocks 32.
Among individual stocks, SoftBank Group, Kioxia and Advantest declined, while Konami Group, Recruit and Fast Retailing rose. Selling in semiconductor stocks, prompted by reports that China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) had advanced its memory capacity through new product development, affected the broader market. Concerns over the Middle East also affected the crude oil market, and oil-related stocks attracted buying on expectations of higher crude oil prices.
