Yokogawa Electric is promoting autonomous control AI solutions that integrate AI with CENTUM and introduces initiatives using 150 AI agents to support the transfer of skilled workers' expertise. Applications at JSR's chemical plant and an Aramco gas plant are cited as examples from Japan and overseas.
Yokogawa Electric is expanding its autonomous control AI solutions, which incorporate AI into plant control by leveraging its long-standing strengths in instrumentation, control and information technology. The company is focused on using existing facilities while prioritizing safety and measurable results, with collaboration among peripheral technologies centered on CENTUM.
In the past, Yokogawa Electric implemented autonomous control AI using FKDPP at a JSR chemical plant for the first time in the world. By establishing a system in which AI makes decisions on and inputs valve operations previously performed by veteran operators, the company reduced workloads, stabilized quality, and achieved a 40% reduction in steam consumption and CO2 emissions.
In 2025, the company deployed multiple autonomous control AI systems at an Aramco gas plant to autonomously optimize acid gas removal operations. This achieved reductions of 10–15% in amine and steam consumption and approximately 5% in electricity consumption.
At present, AI is not a core source of revenue but is positioned as a complementary function that boosts the overall business as an advanced form of control. Inquiries from around the world are also increasing.
