In Japan's market on the 13th, the Nikkei 225 fell for a 4th straight session. It was down more than ¥1,500 at one point, while electric appliance and machinery stocks were pressured by the decline in the SOX as higher crude oil prices drove bond prices lower.
In Japan's market on the 13th, the Nikkei 225 was down more than ¥1,500 at one point, marking its 4th straight trading-day decline. The worsening situation in the Middle East and uncertainty over ceasefire talks between Russia and Ukraine are believed to be behind the rise in crude oil prices.
Following heavy selling in the SOX semiconductor stock index in the US market, electric appliance and machinery stocks also weighed on the index in Japan.
However, sectors including banks and autos rose, and the TSE Stock Price Index (TOPIX) briefly entered positive territory. Overall, the market continued to lack clear direction.
The yen was trading in the mid-¥158 range against the dollar, slightly weaker than its level through the previous day.
