Japan Women’s University announced on its official website and social media that it plans to appoint Shinohara Tomoe (篠原ともえ) as a specially invited professor at the Faculty of Fashion Design (provisional name), scheduled to open in 2028. In addition to Shinohara, Etsumi Yasutoshi (江角泰俊), designer of EZUMi, and Richard Collasse (リシャール・コラス), former president of Chanel Japan, are also scheduled to serve as specially invited professors.
The new faculty will focus on 4 areas, design, textiles, art, and business, with the aim of developing students’ ability to analyze and solve challenges surrounding fashion. Through the experience of the 3 professors, students will have opportunities to develop an international perspective, learn brand strategy, and build the ability to adapt to the SDGs and technology.
The establishment of the faculty is being led by Shinohara Satoko (篠原聡子), president of Japan Women’s University, with a policy aimed at expanding educational opportunities and contributing to the international community. Shinohara has expressed her intention to emphasize practical learning in which she works hands-on alongside students, while Etsumi and Collasse have both stressed educational and business perspectives that connect theory with practice.
