Tokyo stocks fell sharply on the morning of the 23rd, following declines in U.S. technology shares. The Nikkei 225's morning close was more than ¥1,060 below the previous day's close, while the TOPIX also fell.
The Nikkei 225 extended its losses in Tokyo trading on the morning of the 23rd, at one point falling more than ¥1,400. Selling spread mainly across AI-related shares and semiconductor stocks, reportedly as declines in U.S. stocks spilled over into the Japanese market.
The morning session closed at ¥61,825.26, down ¥1,082.58 from the previous day's close, while the TOPIX fell 72.80 points to 3,924.70. Growing concerns about AI investment in the U.S. market were said to have affected the domestic market as well.
