The Nikkei 225 rebounded for the first time in 4 sessions, maintaining levels near the session high and closing higher on renewed afternoon buying. With the market awaiting the FOMC outcome, investor sentiment tilted toward risk-on.
The Nikkei 225 rebounded for the first time in 4 sessions, closing at ¥60,323.00, up ¥438.90 from the previous day. The move was driven by a reaction to the index's decline of more than ¥1,700 through the previous day, as well as the trend of renewed buying in semiconductor stocks in the US market.
The market opened at ¥60,372.13, starting with a 3-digit gain, but morning buying ran its course amid the impact of rising long-term yields in Japan and the US and higher oil prices. Toward the end of the morning session, the index fell as low as ¥63,209.92, and the morning session ended with a 2-digit decline.
In the afternoon, high-priced shares were bought as Nasdaq 100 futures and KOSPI held firm, and the Nikkei 225 rose by more than ¥200 shortly after the afternoon session began. Although the advance temporarily stalled toward the end of the session, the gain widened, and the index closed near its high after rising more than ¥400.
