A plan to construct a new mixed-use building on the former Century Royal Hotel site in Sapporo's Kita 5-jo Nishi 5-chome District is under consideration, and a proposal was presented to relax the floor-area ratio to 1,181%, up 400%. Following a proposal from the landowner, Sumitomo Life Insurance Company, construction is targeted to begin in 2028.
Sapporo City is considering the adoption and amendment of an urban plan for the Kita 5-jo Nishi 5-chome District near the south exit of JR Sapporo Station. A new mixed-use building is planned for the site of the Sumitomo Life Sapporo Building, which housed the Century Royal Hotel, following a proposal from the landowner.
The floor-area ratio will be set at 1,181%, up 400% from the current level. This will advance consideration of an expansion in the building's scale.
A preliminary briefing is scheduled to be held at the Urban Planning Council on 13 November, and according to sources, construction is targeted to begin in 2028.
The above is based on Sapporo City's consideration of the adoption and amendment of the urban plan and Sumitomo Life Insurance Company's proposal for use of the former site.
