BOJ Policy Board member Masu Kazuyuki (増一行) indicated that, regarding future monetary policy management, “given that the current financial environment remains accommodative, we will continue raising the policy rate and adjust the degree of monetary easing.”
The speech was delivered at a meeting on financial and economic matters held in Fukui, where the member also noted that central banks worldwide are in rate-hike mode against the backdrop of tensions in the Middle East.
The member said that, if inflation were to accelerate, Japan’s still-accommodative policy stance could create a risk of being forced to raise interest rates rapidly.
