Mazda announced that orders for the new CX-5 in Japan exceeded 17,000 units by the end of August, and also reported progress in transforming its domestic business structure, positioning Japan as an important “mother market.”
Mazda announced that cumulative orders for the new CX-5, launched in Japan on 21 May 2026, exceeded 17,000 units as of the end of August. The new model is one of the company’s global strategic vehicles and is set to play an important role in Japan as well.
While positioning Japan as its mother market, Mazda is working to strengthen its business foundation and return to growth in light of the contraction trend in its domestic business. Under its domestic business structural transformation policy announced in 2025, the company is advancing the rebuilding of its sales network, marketing investments, penetration of brand value at dealerships, and greater efficiency in back-office functions.
The CX-5 has strengthened its product appeal through its design and driving performance, as well as the addition of a hybrid powertrain, the latest connected features, and enhanced advanced driver-assistance functions. Since its launch, it has continued to attract new customers. Although the top-end “L” grade accounts for a high proportion of sales, the share of new customers in their 20s and 30s and other younger age groups is increasing.
Miura Tadashi (三浦 忠), head of Mazda’s Domestic Sales Division, emphasized the steady progress of customer-focused business design and domestic structural reform. He reiterated the company’s policy of aiming to sell 200,000 units in 2030 and to remain a company chosen by 200,000 people.
