The Nikkei 225 extended its decline in Tokyo trading on the 14th, closing at ¥63,492.99, down ¥518.35 from the previous day. After plunging in the morning, buy-the-dip interest in Nikkei 225 futures narrowed the decline. International AI-related developments and crude oil prices weighed on the market.
The Nikkei 225 closed at ¥63,492.99 on the 14th, down ¥518.35 from the previous day. The decline temporarily exceeded ¥1,200, and the index fell below ¥63,000 at one point during trading. AI-related developments and higher crude oil prices weighed on the market, with selling prevailing overall.
The decline was driven by reports that US-based OpenAI would not list this year, as well as concerns over a slowdown in the pace of AI development, sending AI and semiconductor-related stocks lower across the board. Persistently high US crude oil futures prices also weighed on the market.
After hitting its morning low, however, the Nikkei 225 futures market saw intermittent buy-the-dip interest from short-term investors, and the Nikkei 225 showed signs of holding up.
