A large-scale fire broke out in grasslands in eastern Mongolia earlier this month, and the government said it would hold a Cabinet meeting, identify those responsible and consider compensation for the damage. Japanese executives and others from KDDI subsidiary Mobicom were reportedly involved, and KDDI issued an apology and expressed its willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
A large-scale grassland fire, including in a nature reserve, broke out in Dornod Province in eastern Mongolia. By the 24th, the government had held a Cabinet meeting and said it would identify those responsible and consider seeking compensation. Deputy Prime Minister Nomtoibayar (ノムトイバヤル) was reported to have said that an apology alone would not suffice.
The grassland fire reportedly occurred while Japanese executives and others from Mobicom were traveling in a convoy, according to local media reports. KDDI issued an apology on the 23rd and said it would fully cooperate with the investigation, while explaining that it had confirmed that its employees had not violated any laws.
