Japan’s first sports lottery based on basketball, “DUNK,” went on sale on 15 September, and a presentation for the new product was held at the National Yoyogi Stadium Second Gymnasium. Japan Sport Council Chairman Ashidate Satoshi (芦立 訓) and B.LEAGUE Commissioner Shimada Shinji (島田 慎二) took the stage to introduce how DUNK works and its significance.
DUNK is available in two types, “DUNK10” and “DUNK6,” priced at ¥300 and ¥100 per entry, respectively. The top prize is ¥300 million when there is a carryover, and the results are selected randomly by computer, making it a sports lottery that requires no predictions.
The presentation explained plans to provide a DUNK bonus as a purchase benefit timed to coincide with the milestone of “B.LEAGUE PREMIER,” the top-tier category under the new system “B.革新” (“B. Innovation”), which is due to launch shortly. The initiative aims to encourage arena attendance through benefits such as coupons for game tickets. Two-thirds of sales revenue is expected to be returned to facility development and training through sports promotion grants.
Commissioner Shimada Shinji (島田 慎二) welcomed the expansion of the business and its growing social presence, saying that the aim going forward is to broaden the entry point into basketball and establish a structure for returning funds to the sport.
As behind-the-scenes stories from the commercial shoot, actor Takahashi Issei (高橋 一生) and comedy duo ジェラードン, who appeared in the commercial, made an appearance, and details about the staging of the dunk scenes and the filming were introduced.
