The New York market fell for a second straight session on the 29th, with the Dow ending at 51,349.92, down $131.59, and the Nasdaq at 26,797.54, down 22.84 points. The market remained soft throughout the session.
While lower oil prices spread a sense of relief, comments from Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) officials supporting additional rate hikes pushed long-term yields higher and weighed on the market.
The market was also affected by weaker-than-expected consumer confidence and JOLTS job openings data. By sector, utilities rose while real estate management and development fell. The settlement price for Chicago Nikkei 225 futures was ¥66,305, up ¥520 from the Osaka daytime session.
In the ADR market, Advantest, Shin-Etsu Chemical and Hitachi, among others, rose relative to their TSE prices, with buying reported to have prevailed broadly.
