Rapidus announced a collaboration with India's major IT company HCL Technologies and will outsource semiconductor design work and other tasks to the company. HCL will establish 2 development sites in Karnataka to support Rapidus.
Rapidus, which is advancing semiconductor development, announced on the 26th that it will collaborate with India's major IT company HCL Technologies. Rapidus said it plans to outsource semiconductor design work and other tasks to HCL.
HCL will establish 2 development sites for Rapidus in Karnataka in southern India to support the company. The aim is to address the challenge of securing talent through external collaboration.
Rapidus has set a target of beginning mass production of advanced semiconductors with a 2-nanometer circuit linewidth in the second half of fiscal 2027, but mass production is said to face technical hurdles and a shortage of talent in Japan.
As Rapidus expands its capacity to undertake outsourced work, the government has approved cumulative support on the order of ¥3 trillion. Rapidus has also announced a new framework, “Rapidus Core,” for collaborating with companies involved in design and IP.
