Apple has launched a new Polishing Cloth. It is thinner and softer to the touch than the previous model, with the price revised to ¥1,580 in Japan and reduced to $9 in the US. According to a user who obtained one, its texture feels different from that of the previous model.
Apple announced the new Polishing Cloth on 25 August. In Japan, the price was revised from ¥2,980 to ¥1,580, while in the US it was reduced from $19 to $9. The new model is also marked “New” on the official sales page. Alongside photos of the product taken by someone who obtained one, it was noted that its appearance is almost identical to that of the previous model.
The packaging is almost identical to that of the previous model, but the cloth itself is thinner, and its texture has been reported to be smoother and less resistant to the touch. Users overseas have also shared the view that the new model is less stiff and feels more like a cloth for Nano-texture displays.
The details of the material change have not been disclosed officially. The reasons behind the price change and the relationship between the thinner design and the material change are also unclear, but it has been suggested that, at this point, the product is unlikely to be viewed as a simple price-only update. Its importance for cleaning Nano-texture displays continues to be explained, along with instructions on wiping with IPA and reusing the cloth.
The new model is presented as something that may encourage owners of the previous model to compare the two by touch, while it continues to have value as a practical product. Karagana has published a hands-on review, and further testing articles are expected to attract attention.
