Kirin's Health Science Research Institute announced that continuous intake of a food containing lactic acid bacterium KW3110 alleviated ocular symptoms caused by mild to moderate hay fever during periods of high pollen dispersal and improved self-reported items concerning the perceived impact on people around the participant. The clinical trial was conducted as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study with an 8-week intake period, and the results were reported at an academic conference.
Kirin Holdings Company,Limited conducted a clinical trial of a food containing Lacticaseibacillus paracasei KW3110 to evaluate its effects on nasal and ocular symptoms associated with mild to moderate hay fever. Relief of ocular symptoms was confirmed during a period of significant pollen dispersal, and improvements were observed in items indicating the impact on daily life. The findings were presented at the 75th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Allergology.
The changes in scores for “ocular symptoms” and the self-reported symptom “I am concerned about people around me” improved significantly versus placebo at weeks 6 and 8 of intake. The participants were 130 people aged 20 to 65 with nasal and ocular discomfort in early spring, and the study was conducted as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
