Apple has announced new US-layout Magic Keyboard products, replacing the English labels on 5 keys, including Tab and Caps Lock, with symbol glyphs. Prices are broadly unchanged, and the change is reportedly aimed mainly at updating the display and improving manufacturing efficiency.
Apple has announced new US-layout models of its proprietary Magic Keyboard, switching the labels on 5 keys, Tab, Caps Lock, Shift, Return, and Delete, from the traditional English labels to symbol glyphs. The same symbols were adopted for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air this spring, and the change is believed to be aimed at improving manufacturing efficiency by standardizing the English-language layout. Similar symbols are also used in macOS menus and shortcut displays, so Mac users are expected to be able to make the transition without discomfort.
The change applies to US-layout USB-C Magic Keyboard models, including models with Touch ID and a numeric keypad. The previous Lightning-connected model with a numeric keypad is excluded from the change.
