The use of generative AI is believed to have driven an expansion in cyberattacks, with more than 50 million corporate personal-information records exposed. Large numbers of member records at JR East-affiliated Viewcard, Sky Ticket, Book-Off and Lawson ID, among others, may have been compromised.
Against a backdrop of advances in AI, the scale of data breaches caused by unauthorized access targeting companies is expanding to an unprecedented extent. The information that may have been exposed ranges from email addresses to member records, and companies are continuing to disclose details.
Specifically, the information cited includes up to approximately 4.03 million member email addresses at Viewcard, a JR East subsidiary; approximately 14.64 million records belonging to Sky Ticket users; up to 6.43 million records at Book-Off; approximately 2.15 million Lawson ID records; more than 8.72 million customer records at DAIICHIKOSHO; and approximately 2.06 million records belonging to JR East’s Ekinet and Otona no Kyujitsu Club members.
Cybersecurity company S&J said attacks using AI have become practical. It said attacks using generative AI could realistically overcome language barriers.
Further disclosures of new breaches may emerge in succession, making it an urgent priority for companies to strengthen their preparations.
