Nippon Life made MDV a wholly owned subsidiary, strengthening its use of medical data. It is considering promoting early medical consultations and developing new products.
Nippon Life Insurance made MDV, which collects and analyzes medical data, a wholly owned subsidiary. MDV President Nakamura Masaki (中村正樹) indicated that the company would pursue long-term efforts to address medical issues, promote early medical consultations in cooperation with Nippon Life, and consider developing new insurance products.
Founded in 2003, MDV uses and provides hospital-held medical information as big data. Nippon Life made MDV a subsidiary following a TOB last year, saying that the use of MDV’s data would make it easier to pursue long-term initiatives with substantial social value.
MDV will work with Nippon Life to establish a system that assesses the health of Nippon Life policyholders and encourages them to undergo medical examinations. It plans to use conversational AI to inform sales representatives about encouraging medical consultations. Approximately 50,000 sales representatives are expected to promote medical consultations.
Nippon Life will also be able to visualize health conditions and forecast future risks through data analysis, making it easier to offer insurance to people with illnesses such as cancer. MDV Executive Vice President Hida (飛田) expects data to connect the company’s businesses seamlessly.
