Nikkei 225 futures traded after the close with the 25-day and 75-day moving average levels serving as reference points for underlying firmness. The September contract closed at ¥66,360 and at times traded above its ¥66,340 opening price.
Nikkei 225 futures for the September contract ended trading at ¥66,360, up ¥880 from the previous day. The contract opened at ¥66,340 and moved above the settlement price. It rose to an intraday high of ¥66,420 shortly afterward, but was pushed back to around ¥65,660 by profit-taking and short selling from traders waiting for a rebound.
The contract remained in positive territory during the day, and a move back above the 25-day moving average at ¥65,750 helped trigger a short-term rebound. From the middle of the morning session onward, it traded in a range of ¥65,850–¥66,200, and this movement continued at the same levels in the afternoon session.
While stocks with a large impact on the index provided support, aggressive long positions were held back because semiconductor and AI-related stocks were volatile, and the market continued to fall short of a full-fledged technical rebound. Price movements centered on the 25-day and 75-day moving averages were watched as factors for judging future buying on dips.
On the weekly chart, the move above the lower -1σ band of the Bollinger Bands is progressing, and the 13-week moving average may come within reach. At the same time, a situation in which the daily lower -1σ band comes within reach is also conceivable, potentially prompting short positions. The NT ratio has risen to 16.33x, and attention is also focusing on future rebalancing activity.
