Korean semiconductor giant SK hynix is considering a plan to build a semiconductor factory in Miyagi Prefecture, Korean media reported, with an investment of several trillion yen envisaged. SK says no decision has been made.
South Korean newspaper The Hankyoreh reported that SK hynix is considering a plan to build a memory semiconductor production plant in Miyagi Prefecture. The investment is expected to total several trillion yen, which, if realized, could be the first such large-scale investment in Japan.
There are also reports of concerns that the United States is taking a stronger stance in calling for semiconductor investment within the country, and that the plan's realization will depend on multiple diplomatic and economic factors. In response to an inquiry from NNN, SK hynix said that no decision had been made and indicated that locations with the necessary infrastructure could be candidates.
