In Tokyo trading on the morning of the 6th, buying centered on AI and semiconductor shares continued, and the Nikkei 225 edged higher. The weaker yen, stronger dollar and receding expectations of a GPIF asset-allocation review supported the market.
In the morning Tokyo stock market, the Nikkei 225 traded approximately ¥450 higher than the previous day and held in the lower ¥70,400 range. Buying of AI-related and semiconductor shares continued, with Advantest temporarily setting a record high since listing.
The rise in major technology shares in the US market spread to the domestic market, broadening buying of AI-related shares and supporting related stocks. The yen traded in the upper ¥157 range per dollar, with the yen weaker and the dollar stronger. Market participants reacted strongly to reports concerning a review of GPIF's asset allocation, which may have reduced expectations for such a review. The weaker-yen trend also supported some export-related shares, including automakers.
As of 10 a.m., trading value on the TSE Prime Market was an estimated ¥2.0902 trillion, with trading volume of approximately 561.67 million shares. Among major stocks, Recruit, Fast Retailing and TDK rose, while Kioxia and Kyocera fell.
