Bank of Japan Policy Board member Masu Kazuyuki (増 一行) told a news conference in Fukui that, regarding an additional rate hike, the BOJ would “carefully examine and verify everything, including exchange rates and crude oil prices, before discussing it at the next meeting.” The next monetary policy meeting is scheduled to be held on the 17th and 18th of this month.
Bank of Japan Policy Board member Masu Kazuyuki (増 一行) told a news conference in Fukui on the 10th that the BOJ would carefully examine and verify factors including exchange rates and crude oil prices before discussing an additional rate hike at the next meeting.
The next monetary policy meeting will be held on the 17th and 18th of this month. The BOJ has so far maintained a rate-hike pace of roughly once every six months, but Masu Kazuyuki (増 一行) noted that describing September as an “acceleration” was appropriate.
In a speech and at the news conference, he said that underlying inflation was “below 2% but quite close to it,” while expressing the view that “a substantial and rapid rise is not a concern at present.” Regarding remarks by Japanese and U.S. finance officials, he said the BOJ would seek to conduct monetary policy independently.
