SBS Holdings announced that it will acquire Mitsubishi Chemical's logistics subsidiary, Mitsubishi Chemical Logistics, for ¥19.2 billion and acquire all shares by April 2027, making it a wholly owned subsidiary. The move is intended to expand orders in the chemicals logistics sector.
SBS Holdings, a major logistics company, announced that it will acquire Mitsubishi Chemical's logistics subsidiary, Mitsubishi Chemical Logistics, for ¥19.2 billion. Following completion of the acquisition, SBS Holdings plans to make the company a wholly owned subsidiary, with completion targeted for April 2027.
Mitsubishi Chemical Logistics transports hazardous materials, poisonous and deleterious substances, and high-pressure gases. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Group. Revenue for the fiscal year ended March 2026 was ¥80.3 billion, but the company posted a net loss of ¥1.0 billion for the same period, making profitability a key issue.
SBS Holdings has been pursuing business expansion through M&A and aims to improve its scale and profitability by increasing orders, including in chemicals logistics. The company has a track record of acquiring logistics subsidiaries of manufacturers, including making Bridgestone Logistics a consolidated subsidiary in 2025.
Approximately 70% of Mitsubishi Chemical Logistics' revenue comes from transportation related to Mitsubishi Chemical. Becoming part of SBS Holdings could increase opportunities to win orders from other companies.
