An ultra-compact ZEH home for two people built on a 14-tsubo site won the Grand Prize in the New Construction Division of the LIXIL Members Contest. Its room tour on YouTube has surpassed 170,000 views.
Despite its small 14-tsubo site, the home was completed as a ZEH residence designed specifically for two people and was selected for the top prize in the New Construction Division of the LIXIL Members Contest 2018. A web viewing tour using video also attracted considerable attention, with more than 170,000 YouTube views.
The home features high thermal insulation, including STO exterior wall render and 50 mm EPS insulation. The building area is 22.93 square meters, or 6.9 tsubo, the BELS rating is ☆☆☆☆☆, and the total construction cost has not been disclosed.
The interior uses a variety of zones, including an entrance dirt floor, suspended staircase, Japanese-style room, living room, dining kitchen, workspace, loft, and courtyard, with features designed to maximize the compact space throughout. In particular, the loft increases storage capacity with a ceiling height of 1,400 mm, while the courtyard creates a sense of openness because it is excluded from the building coverage ratio calculation.
Alongside the web viewing tour of the 7-tsubo ZEH, the YouTube video uses a 360° format, including a VR experience, to provide a realistic feel for the home's interior. The photos and video showcase a range of facilities and design features, including the exterior, entrance, bathroom, Japanese-style room, living room, dining kitchen, study-style workspace, loft, and courtyard.
